Quarter Length Programs
When applying for an Overseas Studies quarter-length program you will need to apply two quarters in advance for all programs (Kyoto SCTI application will also now be two quarters in advance) excluding the Summer Quarter.
- There will be two application rounds. You can apply to ONE program in each application round (each application round has a different deadline, see table below.)
- Results will be announced two weeks after each deadline giving students waitlisted in the 1st round an option to apply for the 2nd round.
- Programs oversubscribed after the 1st round will not accept applications in the 2nd round. Students are encouraged to apply for their desired program in the first round since an oversubscribed program may not be available in the 2nd round.
- During the 2nd round, all students (including students who did not apply during the 1st round) are eligible to submit an additional application for another program.
The Bing Overseas Studies Program encourages students to explore all the possible program options available to them and think thoughtfully about their academic reasoning for wanting to participate in individual programs. A good way to explore all our programs or to get advice on what program might be a good fit is to follow the link below which has advising resources that you can use to make good decisions about studying abroad:
http://bosp.stanford.edu/considering/finding_prog.html
Resources are available to assist you with the application process. Undergraduate Advising and Research professional advisors are available to meet with students to assist with academic planning that incorporates overseas studies and review of application personal statements prior to submission to BOSP. Please contact an UAR advisor to schedule an advising appointment.
For more information please visit the application policies and FAQ section of the application website.

Change of Status, Extending and Program Withdrawal
All BOSP participants are subject to and will be held accountable for the policies in this section. Please review them carefully.
Accepted
Although you have been admitted to the program and are confirmed, failure to turn in required materials by the Required Materials Deadline, attend the mandatory orientation session and complete mandatory orientation activities will result in your removal from the program. This will enable us to better prepare students for studying abroad, and will ensure fairness to students on the waitlist who have completed all of these items.
Waitlisted
If you are currently waitlisted for any BOSP program (Quarter-length, Consortium or Seminar), know that we will ONLY accept students from the waitlist who have turned in all of their required materials, and who have attended the mandatory orientation meeting regardless of where you might be ranked on the waitlist. Students who fail to do this will be administratively withdrawn from the waitlist. This will enable us to better prepare students for studying abroad, and will ensure fairness to other students on the waitlist who have completed all of these items.
Students on the Waitlist who have completed all of the necessary items above will be accepted into the program as soon as space becomes available, even on very short notice up until it becomes no longer possible to admit you to the program. Please understand that it is impossible for BOSP to predict whether you will be accepted into the program. You may remain on the waitlist for as long as you wish. If you do not wish to remain on the waitlist, please send an email to [email protected], so that we can remove you from the list.
Extending Your Stay (Quarter-length programs only)
If you are considering staying in the program for 2 or 3 quarters or are enjoying the program so much that you wish to continue your studies abroad on the program for another quarter, it is often possible to extend your stay overseas to a second or third quarter depending on the program! To request an extension, you must complete, sign and return the 2012-13 Extension Request Form or 2013-14 Extension Request Form to BOSP at [email protected] or submit it directly to the BOSP office
Withdrawing from a Program
Please refer to your BOSP Participation Agreement for withdrawal deadlines.
In the unfortunate event that you must withdraw from a program, please notify BOSP immediately so that another student may have the opportunity to participate in the program. In addition, to officially withdraw from the program you must complete, sign & return the Withdrawal Request Form for the appropriate program below to BOSP at [email protected] or submit it directly to the BOSP office. It is important that you read this information carefully and consider that withdrawing from the program may have financial consequences.
