Life in Beijing

Arrival
You must arrive in Beijing on the arrival date indicated in the program calendar. An onsite orientation meeting will be held at the Peking University campus. During orientation, you will meet faculty and staff from the Beijing Program and PKU, while getting a thorough introduction to the program.
NOTE: If you choose to arrive early or stay on after the end of the program, you are responsible for arranging your own temporary housing. You will be provided with suggestions for affordable temporary accommodation during orientation on the Stanford campus
Top of pageAccommodations and Meals
Housing is provided for the duration of the program, as indicated in the program calendar from the arrival date through the last day of residence. Students are housed in suites in an international dormitory on the PKU campus. Each suite has two small private single bedrooms sharing a common bathroom and entry area. Each room is equipped with a television and air conditioning.
The Beijing Program includes dedicated offices for program staff and the Stanford faculty-in-residence, as well as a lounge and computer cluster. The Stanford Center is located in the center of the PKU campus and is in close proximity to the dormitory rooms.
Students will be provided with the equivalent of 19-meals-per-week. Food service is provided through a variety of on-campus cafeterias, offering a large array of dining choices as well as the chance to mingle with both other international students and with local Chinese students. Vegetarian and special dietary needs can be accommodated.

Peking University is one of the most highly respected universities in China and provides a setting for meeting other students and participating in various extracurricular activities. All Stanford students are considered to be enrolled in PKU and, therefore, are able to participate in the wide variety of on-campus athletic and musical activities, including Chinese art and calligraphy, tai chi, and wu shu. However, these opportunities will be limited both by the individual student's language ability, and by the fact that Stanford's academic calendar is different from PKU's academic calendar.
