Registration for Stanford Medicine X now open

Registration for the Stanford Medicine X conference is now open.

The three-day event, which runs Sept. 28-30 on the Stanford campus, will cover a wide range of topics at the intersection of medicine and emerging technologies, including patient-centered design, mobile apps, participatory medicine and new tools for biomedical research.

This is the first-ever Medicine X. It is organized by Larry Chu, MD, assistant professor of anesthesia here at the School of Medicine. Chu has designed the conference to be inclusive. He says:

It’s an academic conference designed for everyone. With that goal in mind, 10 percent of the seats will be given for free to patients. We aim to unite patients with health-care providers, researchers and technologists to solve health-care problems.

Designer Michael Graves will deliver the opening keynote. Other confirmed speakers include Peter Binfield, PhD, publisher of PLoS ONE; Dennis Boyle, one of the founding members of IDEO; Anne Wojcicki, chief executive officer and co-founder of 23andMe; Aza Raskin, co-founder of Massive Health; Bryan Vartabedian, MD, author of 33 Charts; and John Markoff, reporter for the science section of New York Times.

Conference fees start at $1,119 for the general public, $779 for academicians, and $499 for students. The “early bird” registration deadline is May 15; space is limited.
