Student Community

Student Life

Stanford University is a diverse community with a student body of approximately 15,000 students: 6,800 undergraduates and 8,200 graduate students. Graduate students come from all parts of the country and world; represent all racial, ethnic and religious groups; and include men, women, and members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered communities.

Numerous cultural, ethnic and religious student organizations flourish on campus. Community centers bring undergraduate and graduate students together.

Academic Life

Academic life is the heart of the graduate student experience. Stanford’s research community is particularly noted for its openness to interdisciplinary research, not only within its schools and departments, but also in its laboratories, institutes and research centers. Thin walls between academic disciplines encourage creativity and innovation.
