Promoting and Enhancing Innovation

The strength of the academic experience at Stanford University can be found in the breadth and depth of its various departments graduate degree programs. The VPGE office supports innovation and creative approaches to departmental and program enhancements. In particular, our office awards funds in the following programs:

• SCORE: Strengthening the Core

  
  SCORE Innovation Funds help faculty and graduate students to scrutinize long-existing practices and test new approaches for graduate education. Academic departments and programs are invited to submit proposals for one-year projects; a proposal should identify a pressing challenge and a plan for addressing the issue. • SPICE: Student Projects for Intellectual Community Enhancement

  
  Recognizing that students do not need to wait for intellectual communities to be developed for them, the SPICE program acknowledges they can be energetic agents who create activities that enhance the academic life of the department. SPICE Funds support graduate students (master’s, doctoral, or professional) to develop innovative activities to expand the intellectual community of their department or program.
