Today was the final day for the mandala in the Alumni Center lobby. Here, a monk is putting the finishing touches on it. Thirty minutes later, they brushed all the colorful sand into a pile, put it into small plastic bags, and handed it out to onlookers.

The final week of my photo project starts with Professor Raman Saldivar chatting with a group of students on the Quad.

I rented a zoom lens today and managed to get a glimpse of some folks at the top of HooTow.

A group of Tibetan monks is creating a sand mandala in the lobby of the Alumni Center. It's connected with the Dalai Lama's visit to Stanford this week. I could have watched them all day. They'll finish next Tuesday, have a ceremony, and then destroy their work. A reminder that nothing is permanent.

Studying at Stanford in the middle of October. Gotta love Indian Summer.

Okay, I cheated. I actually stayed home from work yesterday, and took both Monday's shot and this one about 2 minutes apart. Rather than "skip" yesterday, I thought I'd post them both. I guess this is a self-portrait of sorts.

The light on the sandstone as I'm leaving work is stunning this time of year.

Right when I got my "artistic" shot all set up, this little cutie ran into it. The dash of pink is just what it needed.

Back at the Schwab Center. I just love these chain drains hanging from the gutters.

Into my final month of photos. This is a line worth waiting in--for the Thai Cafe. You order through a window, in the basement of the math building (Bldg 380/420). Everything on the menu is $6, and everything is yummy. And spicy.

Another hot day, another fountain. This one very peaceful, over in the courtyard of Y2E2, beneath a ginko well on it's way to yellow.

It finally feels like summer around here. Roasting hot today, and perfect for a splash in the Claw with good friends and an inflatable turtle.

Leading Matters Boston today, with over 600 guests. The breaks are always interesting--caterers develop red & white snacks. Today's included jelly beans, strawberry parfaits, watermelon and feta skewers, and these: rasberry tarts and cranberry/white chocolate granola bars. Yummy.

We're in Boston for Leading Matters Boston tomorrow. Took a walk to the Boston Common, and I assumed that this was Paul Revere, out on his midnight ride. Wrong. It's George Washington. The Common was lovely. I was hoping to see some fall colors, but they are only just starting--the fall colors in the Bay Area are actually farther along.
