Next stop, Taipei. My colleagues, Elizabeth Ocken and Lorrie Robertson, lead the way into the Night Market.

Leading Matters--a series of 19 alumni events in four years--was originally scheduled to make a stop in Shanghai. William Koo, '00, MS '01, successfully campaigned to move the event to Singapore. Ironically, William, a native Singaporean, was transferred to Shanghai four months ago! But, it was clear that he was right about the location--we had over 350 alumni from nine countries in attendance. William helped out at the registration desk with Meenal Kumar, '06. Seeing the alumni stream in the door, he said, "This is a dream come true."

I was planning on making it the full year without a photo of myself, but decided that this one was too special to pass up. On Friday night in Singapore, we held a reception to thank our volunteers from throughout Asia. One of them is my fellow Madera-RA, Mark Nelson, '79, and another was one of our frosh, Loli Lee Sy, '83. Mark and I hadn't seen Loli in thirty years. Loli and her husband Steve, MBA '84, live in Manila, and their oldest daughter (of 5 children), Stephanie, is a junior at Stanford.

For lunch on Thursday, Mark took us to the Hawker Stalls near his office for street food. (You can't miss Helen with her braid.) A big thumbs up for Singaporean street food--ours was from a stall called "Very Wonderful." I also liked the sweet sugar cane water. Every meal we had in Singapore was better than the last--a foodie's paradise.

A highlight of my visit to Singapore was reconnecting with Mark Nelson, '79. Mark and I were RAs together in Madera. He, his wife Margrit, and two great kids, Zach and Emily, have lived in Singapore for the past 10 years. Margrit took us on a fascinating tour in the morning, and then we were treated to a superb Indonesian meal at their home. Mark and Margrit are standing in the back, next to their housekeeper and cook extraordnaire, Atun. Emily and Zach are on the left, with Ashley Elich in between. On the right, from the top, are Elizabeth Ocken, who works in Donor Relations with Ashley, Helen Bing, and Donna Garton, '79.

I have the two best sightseeing companions for a few days before the work begins for our Leading Matters alumni event in Singapore. Donna Garton, '79, and Helen Bing, are shown here on the grounds of Fort Canning in Singapore, after a tour of the Battle Box, where the British surrendered to the Japanese in WWII.

My job takes me to some fun places for Leading Matters events. These next 10 days won't be campus shots, but I do hope to share a bit of Stanford in Asia. This one doesn't exactly do that, but it does mark our stop in Hong Kong on the way to Singapore.

I was luckier than many of my colleagues, and saw this before I left for work! The power was restored by mid-morning, but many of us worked from home all day. We're in the midst of a series of huge storms bringing much needed rain.

It seems that classmates should be fair game for this blog. I had coffee this morning with James Higa, '80. who is helping us brainstorm ways to market our upcoming Leading Matters Bay Area event on May 22, 2010. Although we lived in the same trailer quad sophomore year, I didn't get to know James until after we graduated. I'm glad that our paths continue to cross. (And he may get me onto Twitter yet!)

The new Munger Graduate Residences are about as nice as dorms get. This lovely little market is adjacent to them, and just across the way, The Russo Cafe looks like it's worth a try as well.

It's been overcast and rainy this week, and I haven't ventured out of the building except to walk to and from my car. The stairwells of the Alumni Center feature historical photos, and I just love this one. There is note below the picture, explaining that these women hailed from the Central Valley and were known as "The Combine." I just love their hair.

Lovely piano music was coming from the living room as I was leaving the Alumni Center tonight, so I took a slight detour to see who was playing. It was nobody, just the modern rendition of a player piano, which for some reason always makes me smile.

It's fun to spot license plates like these around campus--and even more fun when you see them miles away.

Generally, I have no idea what I am going to photograph each day. Most days, I take a lunchtime walk and see what I find. And this is what I found today: dozens of numbered green, red, blue and yellow hands and feet scattered about in the old Art Gallery arcade. Any ideas what they might be for?
