Parents Weekend started off sunny, but by mid-day it was pouring. The rain didn't seem to stop many from joining the campus tours.

iPhone camera today--in the rain at Angell Field. At least this seems timely. No Winter sports listed, but quite an impressive list of track & field stars!

I wandered over to the SEQ (Science & Engineering Quad) today. It was beautiful, warm and sunny--perfect for lunch at Bytes Cafe in the Packard Building.

The cherry blossoms are out all along the Row. Until I took this photo, I didn't realize that Grove Lasuen was no longer a Row House. It is now the Row Office and provides "indoor and outdoor programming spaces as well as centralized resources for all Row students, including the Housing Front Desk, Housing Supervisors, Residential Education Row Staff and Academic Advising staff."

My favorite special is back at the Alumni Center Cafe. Thai Chicken pizza--Thurdsays only.

Another drive-by shooting--out my car window on Sand Hill Road. It's not even in focus (I think I was moving!), but I kind of like the painterly effect. The daffodils and just opening poppies are brightening my drive in every morning along the outer edge of campus.

Morning on Lake Lag (which is more of a giant puddle at the moment!).

Okay, I'm cheating. I took this on Friday, but thought it would be fun to post for Valentine's!

Sometimes I remember to slow down and look, and I am awed by the beauty of this place.

The gates to Frost were open today, and I was curious to see what was going on.

The new Visitor Center opened this week, on the corner of Galvez and Campus drive. Although I only remember it as the Track House, according to Steve Player, '63 (who was walking with me when I took this shot), Sam McDonald was the first person to live here, followed by Steve's sister Linda, then a bunch of married football players, and then John Elway. I actually looked up Sam McDonald and Steve was right. In 1909 he converted the attic, and lived there the rest of his life.

On my way out of the office tonight, I noticed a flurry of activity in McCaw Hall. An enthusiastic crew was setting up for the Stanford Dance Marathon 2010.

I ran into three colleagues on their way back from lunch at the GSB. Nikole McCollum (right), Robyn Kamisher (center), and Victor Madrigal, '95, who gets a shout out for staffing the Class of '80 for our 30th reunion this fall.

We had a short layover in Narita on our flight home, where we discovered Wasabi Kit-Kats. Though hesitant to try them at first, we were lured in by the small samples. Donna Garton, '79, and I each bought a pack to bring home--surprisingly yummy.Posted by Ms. Cindy Pearson on Feb 3 2010 1:11PM | 0 comments

Jade Chien, MS '79, and mother of Bonnie, '10, met us in the morning and took us up the mountain, above Taipei. We visited her beautiful home, and Jade treated us to fresh melon, papaya, and Buddha's hand fruit. It was the first time Helen Bing and I had tasted Buddha's fruit. Delish.

Leading Matters Taipei was this evening, and a big success. The other highlight of the day was lunch at a Shanghainese soup dumpling place: Din Tai Fung. My colleague Rahela Abbas, dives in, while Tom Maravilla, '77 patiently waits his turn.
