Things have come along way since back in my day. A t-shirt on sale for a single women's basketball game--how cool is that?
Stanford is "closed" for the next two weeks, so I'll resume posting starting Monday, January 4. Happy Holidays and see you in 2010!Posted by Ms. Cindy Pearson on Dec 18 2009 10:41PM | 0 comments

Another awesome new-ish building is the Clark Center. With most the students gone for break, it was pretty quiet over there this evening, but for these two and Santa in her hat.

Our department had the chance to tour the Yang & Yamazaki Environment and Energy (Y2E2) building today. It is so impressive. The window light keeps the need for electric lights low--I loved being able to stand in the middle of the building and see right through conference rooms on either side of me to the outside (top). There are four atria that provide light and ventilation, which makes it all the way down to the basement (bottom). The quote, painted in the stairwells, says it all. Plus, the Coupa Cafe is one of the best eating spots on campus. Their Mexican hot chocolate (Maya--spicy) is to die for.

I know they can be nasty, but as I was taking photos of some buckeye trees, this jay seemed to be keeping an eye on me. He even sang a little as he jumped from branch to branch. And instead of a buckeye, he ended up as my picture of the day.

I know I shouldn't take pictures when I'm driving, but sometimes I just gotta reach for my camera.

Rodin hands, on a wet day in the sculpture garden.

I almost forgot to take a photo today, so I stopped in The Cafe on my way out of the Alumni Center, looking for something to snap. There wan't much action, but as usual, I was drawn to the ice cream! I love Rick's. The Saffron Pistachio (front left) is a particular favorite...

These balloons caught my eye way-way up high in a eucalyptus in one of the football parking lots.

I took these two photos about 200 yards from each other--there were two bulldozers behind these welders--digging up the road to put these pipes in the ground. I hope the students could concentrate!

The tail end of our first rain in weeks was passing over as I drove in this morning, bringing cold temperatures with it. Temps are expected to drop below freezing tonight.

Benjamin Olmstead is a junior from Sacramento. His project for Sculpture 1 is called: Chronic Stress Simulacra. He explains, "There is research to suggest that the effects of chronic stress on the body are equivalent to those of smoking two packs of cigarettes a day. I remind myself of what I am doing to my body through the pressures of being constantly evaluated here at Stanford." It took Ben 7 hours to finish all 40 of his cigarettes as he sat in White Plaza watching students race back and forth to class during dead week.
Three friends were helping him out and filming him. One was dressed as a clown and another told me a great joke:
What do you call a test tube with a college degree?
A graduated cylinder. :-)Posted by Ms. Cindy Pearson on Dec 4 2009 1:56PM | 0 comments

Though golf cart parking is illegal, it appears that parking dogs is a-ok. How cute is this guy?

I believe that Helen Bing is responsible for the wildflowers that grow in the medians all around campus. I have come to look forward to them every spring, but this blanket of yellow December flowers was a special surprise on my walk in this morning.

I have a great job. Here are some of my colleagues--Tom Maravilla, '77, Toben Green, '99, Lauren Jacobs Black, '83, and Leslie Kim, '98, chatting with psychology professor Laura Carstensen. Laura runs the Stanford Center on Longevity. If you ever have the chance to hear her speak, don't miss it.
