I always wonder about this building. I believe it was empty before it was damaged in the Loma Prieta earthquake. It has been fenced off and boarded up for the past 21 years...

Not much time for photos today, though this is pretty representative of summertime around here. Campers everywhere. These kids are part of the Nike Running Camp (per their t-shirts).

I happened upon a photo shoot that was wrapping up in front of Green Library today. Condi Rice and the photographer were reviewing the shots on his computer, before they put the equipment away. (I took this from quite a distance--didn't want to be too intrusive.)

I should've known that I would run into "Stanford" somewhere today. It happened to be at Philz Coffee in San Francisco, where we stopped on our way to an off-campus retreat. One of my colleagues swears it's the best coffee in the world, and she may be right. The Stanford connection was not Phil; it was Mike Shwe, '88. On Fridays, Mike, an aspiring baker, gives free samples of his homemade bread and tells people about a non-profit he's associated with, New Door Ventures. You can learn more about Mike's bakery and New Door Ventures on Proof Bakery's Facebook page. In the photo: my colleagues Miki Yu and Cherie Oliver in front, with Mike (with bread) and Phil behind. (taken with my iPhone)

I heard "chirping" coming from a street drain behind the church. When I stopped to investigate, a man with a "pest control" shirt on explained that two baby racoons were making the noise. Mama racoon had taken one of their siblings to a burrow behind the church, but she was having trouble getting the other two out of the drain, which was at a busy intersection with lots of bike and foot traffic. Poor Mama was quite stressed. I took a few shots (from quite a distance--I cropped this way down), but left after too long because I felt I was only adding to her worries. The pest control guy was certain she was healthy, and that she'd eventually get it worked out. As I left, a sheriff had also arrived to help.

The CoHo has great salads for lunch. This summer, it's also a great place to watch the World Cup.
