    On display in the Alumni Center lobby, from the Stanford archives, are preliminary studies for the Memorial Church mosiacs, produced by a Venetian glass firm. The description states that Jane Stanford rejected a view for the facade that depicted figures rising from tombstones and skeletons draped in shrouds. Instead, she chose this "more pastoral view of Christ blessing the people."

    I happened upon the football team running timed 10 & 40 yard sprints today. The trainer rushed over when he saw me pull out my camera to tell me the practice was "closed." When I explained about my blog, he changed his mind, and said, "Of course, we'll do anything that helps support Stanford." I love this place. And go Stanford football!

    I was trying to get a shot of the clock tower near Meyer Library, when suddenly the clock's bells started to ring. I focused on the pendulum, which started to swinging with the ringing of the bells. And this is the photo that resulted. The clockworks are surrounded by glass, so much of this is reflections. To be honest, I'm not really sure what's what!

    Our 15th Leading Matters event was today, in Santa Clara. Being so close to home, we were able to add some special touches that we just can't do in other cities. For example, one of the panels was on the future of the automobile, and Professor Chris Gerdes brought a "prop," Shelley, the robotic car that will autonomously race up Pike's Peak this summer.
