Stanford University is located on the San Francisco Peninsula, approximately 45 minutes from San Francisco International Airport and 30 minutes from San Jose International Airport.

If you plan to drive to campus, please see Stanford's Parking & Transportation website for information on where to park during your visit. Stanford also has a free shuttle service called the Marguerite. Schedules and maps of Stanford’s free shuttle are available online as well.
You may also want to consider going on a campus tour while you are here. Campus tours are available daily through the Visitor Information office. More information can be found online.
If you wish to arrange a meeting with an EE faculty member during your visit, please contact them directly (https://ee.stanford.edu/faculty) as the admissions office does not keep any of their appointment calendars.
If you would like to sit in on a class, please feel free to contact the instructor directly to ask if you would be able to observe their class. You may search for classes at the following website: https://axess.stanford.edu (in order to search for classes, please click on the "Search for Academic Classes" in the Guest Menu section).

If you will be in the area for several days, you may want to explore the surroundings outside of campus. Stanford’s unique location provides a myriad of opportunities for outdoor activities, music and the arts, rich cultural heritage, and sports. In the neighboring towns of Palo Alto and Menlo Park you will find several theater companies, independent movie houses and bookstores, cafes, shops, and a variety of restaurants. Less than an hour north from Stanford is the city of San Francisco and to the south, the city of San Jose. Each offers an extraordinary array of cultural, geographic and intellectual opportunities.
Of the 8,180 acres that cover the Stanford campus, some 5,200 acres are in general academic use; the remainder stretch westward into the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains. The beautiful geography and pleasant climate of the Bay Area lend themselves for day-trips to the beautiful beaches of the Pacific Ocean and weekends at national parks, such as Yosemite National Park or Lake Tahoe which are only a few hours away and are both summer and winter destinations.
Stanford brings world-renown performances to campus during the academic year and hosts numerous art exhibits.
