12/20/2010: Woman Will Make 500th Blood Donation Dec. 29 at Stanford Blood Center
STANFORD, Calif. — On Dec. 29, blood donor Linda Johnson will become the first woman to make 500 donations at the Stanford Blood Center. As she has for more than two decades, she will donate through a specialized two-hour process that allows the center to collect specific blood components such as platelets. This donation type allows Johnson to donate up to 24 times a year. Whole-blood donors are limited to a maximum of about six donations per year. Full story»

11/16/2010: Donating Blood At Stanford Nov. 22-24 Will Also Help Local Homeless Shelter
STANFORD, Calif. — "Pairing up" can provide a double benefit at Thanksgiving time for those who want to donate blood at the Stanford Blood Center. For every two people who donate blood Nov. 22-24, the center will make a monetary donation in their honor to provide a homeless person with a bed for a night. STANFORD, Calif. —In an effort to increase blood inventory for community hospitals, Stanford Blood Center will host several events and offer special giveaways during January, National Blood Donor Month. The winter holidays are an especially difficult time to maintain adequate supplies of blood because people are typically traveling, busy, or sick during that time, and Blood Center staff have learned that piling on the fun and prizes helps encourage more people to get out and donate.
