House Description
Being a house included in the regular draw and with no priority offered, the atmosphere of Jerry varies from year to year. Many residents draw into Jerry in groups of even numbers, knowing that a majority of the rooms are two-room doubles. Some years residents expect lots of social events (Jerry-hosted all campus parties, happy hours, etc) and some years residents are pretty low key and prefer occasional study breaks and arts events. It really depends on the year and who gets a good draw number. However, traditional Jerry has been a house that has hosted several all-campus parties held by other institutions (ex: annual AEPi party). Because the structure of the house is divided up into 5 "pods" with separate stairwells, it is possible that residents would not take the time to come in the main entrance or convene in the central lounge. So, integrating the pods is a primary goal of a Jerry staff. In the past this has been done by not permitting the same draw group to claim two two-room doubles in the same pod. The resident chef, Sandy, has been working at Stanford for 30+ years and is absolutely amazing; the house is named after her favorite musician: Jerry Garcia. Also, Jerry is widely considered to be one of (if not the most) beautiful houses on campus owing to its location beside the lake and its 2-story balcony.
