Andrea Naomi Leiderman Fellowship

2009-2010 Leiderman FellowsThe Andrea Naomi Leiderman Fellowship supports a student conducting research on a topic related to the education of children and youth, particularly in local, underserved communities of Northern California. This fellowship honors Andrea Naomi Leiderman’s passion for addressing the needs of underserved youth on a local level through a combination of research and direct service.

The ideal fellowship recipient is a Stanford undergraduate (sophomore, junior, or senior) who does the following:

  1. Conducts research on an issue centering on youth and education in California. The research may be for an honors thesis, a Chappell Lougee grant, a Community-Based Research Fellow project, or an independent project supervised by a faculty member. The project must relate to the student's public service-related experiences, further a commitment to working with children and youth, and provide results that can be applied to practice.
  2. Demonstrates consistent engagement with the issue through coursework and/or service.

Students selected as Leiderman Fellows receive a grant of $4,000 ($1,500 in Autumn and Winter Quarters and $1,000 in Spring Quarter) and are expected to present their research results and implications for practice in May. Funds may be used in any way that enables the completion of the proposed research (e.g., direct project expenses, personal educational expenses, release from campus job).

The application deadline for the 2011-12 Leiderman Fellowship has passed. Applications for the 2012-13 fellowship will be available in the fall quarter of 2012.
