Ecosystem Initiatives

SEED has launched initiatives to better understand two critical issues of entrepreneurial ecosystems:

  • SEED believes that one way to address poverty in developing economies is through the job creation that results from business growth, and we recognize that companies in these markets lack the consistent access to capital sources that are necessary to achieve this growth.  As a result, SEED is collaborating with partners in the investment community to address capital availability for growing businesses in frontier economies.
  • SEED has convened a University-wide team to address how policies, rule of law, and governance in countries with developing economies impact the environment for entrepreneurship and business.  SEED is collaborating with faculty members and partners , including the The Freeman Spogli Institute, Hoover Institution, Center for Democracy Development, and the Rule of Law, Business School, and Law School in this effort.

William F. Meehan III, Lecturer in Strategic Management and the Raccoon Partners Lecturer at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, provides oversight for ecosystem initiatives; he and Paul Pfleiderer, C.O.G. Miller Distinguished Professor of Finance, and Professor of Law (by courtesy), School of Law, will together launch a course about emerging and frontier markets investing.
