Caltrain is your most convenient public transportation to reach Stanford from either San Francisco or San Jose. One-way trip from San Francisco costs about $5.75; a one-way trip from San Jose takes approximately 40 minutes and costs about $4.00. Caltrain also connects with stations and shuttles serving the San Francisco and San Jose International Airports. Stanford Marguerite Shuttle, the University’s free shuttle bus, operates several routes. All buses are wheelchair-accessible and have bike racks. Open to the public; no ID required. The main shuttle lines traverse the campus Monday through Friday all year (except University holidays) Evening and weekend service from September to June with the Midnight Express and Shopping Express lines Free transportation to and from the Cal train station A set of basic directions to Stanford for travelers using public transportation is available on our Bay Area Transit website
