Former Student Services Officer

Office of Undergraduate Admission

Densil Porteous was attracted to a career in student services at Stanford because he “believed in the institution” and felt like it was a place where he could grow personally and professionally.

“There’s kind of a palpable feeling about what Stanford can do, will do and is doing and I think it’s all those things that really get me excited,” he says.

For Densil, there is a stimulating energy that comes with being part of a place that is progressing, innovating and working to “be ahead of the curve.”

“We have ideas, we want to see them come to fruition and we’re going to find the best way to do that, setting examples for others not only at the institution, but across the country and globally as well,” he says.

Self-improvement is also important to Densil, who finished his MBA with the help of Stanford’s Tuition Reimbursement Program, which he considers a “huge benefit” that many other employers do not have. Opportunities for staff to take classes, attend lectures, or participate in events on campus are also distinct features of Stanford, says Densil.

“When else are you going to be able to sit with a Pulitzer Prize winner or a Nobel Laureate or listen to a heads of state when they’re on campus?” he says. “These are opportunities you don’t get in a lot of places.”
