Medical Services is the first stop for the diagnosis and treatment of illness, injury, and ongoing conditions, as well as for preventive health counseling and education (e.g., cholesterol screening and lifestyle modification).

Important Instructions for Your Appointment
- Arrive at least 15 minutes ahead of time.
- For an appointment where no fees apply, check in at the computer in the lobby and then proceed to the appropriate waiting area.
- For visits where fees do apply, check in with the receptionist in our lobby (i.e., physical therapy, injections, etc.) and then proceed to your visit.
- Bring any medications you are currently taking.
- Bring any relevant medical records.

If You Cannot Keep an Appointment
- Cancel an appointment any time online at Vadenpatient Online (you will need your SUNet ID)
- Call (650) 498-2336, extension 1 to speak to a receptionist.
- If Vaden is closed, call (650) 498-2336, extension 1. When the recording starts, press 3 and leave a message.
Well-person physical examinations
Physical examinations to meet special needs - for employment, scholarships, programs abroad, etc. - are offered at Vaden.
The charge for a physical exam depends upon the complexity of the physical examination you need. The charge does not include xrays or immunizations. The charges for xrays or immunizations vary. Please call us to schedule an appointment.
After-Hours Medical Services
When Vaden is closed
1. You can book an appointment for a time when Vaden is open, using Vadenpatient
2. Stanford Medical Center Emergency Department is open for EMERGENCY visits 24 hours a day. These visits will be charged to your insurance. There is a $50 copay for Cardinal Care.
3. Palo Alto Medical Foundation Urgent Care, on El Camino Real, has extended hours. Check the website for hours and call to make sure they accept your insurance. You will need to present your insurance card at the time of service.
For Cardinal Care Only
- There is a $20 copay for the visit.
- If you need a follow up visit with a specialist, contact the Vaden referral office, the next day we are open.
4. We have a Physician on call from home after hours for URGENT advice (can't wait until we are open) - call 617-2576 after hours and they will page the physician on call.

Seasonal Influenza Vaccine
As part of Stanford’s continuing focus on wellness and preventive health, free flu shots will be available for students, faculty, staff, retirees, post-doctoral scholars/fellows, and spouses/domestic partners of students, beginning in October, at a number of sites.
