The SUNet ID is a unique 3-8 character account name that identifies you as a member of the Stanford community, with access to the Stanford University Network of computing resources and services. Your SUNet ID is a permanent and visible part of your Stanford identity:
Your SUNet ID will be with you throughout your affiliation with Stanford. If you graduate from Stanford, then return later as an employee, you'll retain the same SUNet ID.

If you are on campus, and are University-eligible for a full-service SUNet ID, your services - including email - will be activated within 4-6 hours of your SUNet ID request.
Otherwise, activation of services may take longer, from a few days to several months.
