Cardinal Buildings

Through simple, everyday actions, occupants of any building can impact Stanford's sustainability and bottom line. Individual actions via the Building Level Sustainability Program complement efficiency improvements and contribute to Stanford's carbon footprint reduction goals. We need your help to make this potential a reality!

You Can Be Your Building's Hero

Individual actions have saved up to 20% on electricity bills in some campus buildings. If all buildings at Stanford achieved the average savings, the university could save $350,000 in electricity costs annually! Schools could capture some of these savings via improved ECIP performance. More than 25 buildings have participated in the program to date. Please help us add another 25 buildings this year. Here's how:

  1. Pledge: Contact Jiffy Vermylen in the Office of Sustainability to indicate your interest and describe your building. The first 10 buildings to do so will be entered into a raffle for a building-wide party.
  2. Prepare: You can enroll in a quick training course. Sustainable Stanford launched classes through STARS/AXESS—register now for SST-1000: Sustainable Office Spaces, a fun and hands-on exploration of the options available to “green” your office. All participants will earn a Sustainable Stanford certificate and qualify for a Healthy Living BeWell Berry
  3. Implement: Take advantage of the best practices and many fresh ideas compiled to save time and ease program implementation. In recognition of the effort and teamwork involved, you will be entered into a raffle drawing for a cash prize and join the growing network of Building Heroes.
  4. Report: Submit the ERP Express rebate program application and receive funding to defray the cost of any Smart Strips or timers purchased.

Need additional resource support? Trained Stanford student interns are available to help you with all implementation steps. All resource options will be reviewed when you contact the Office of Sustainability.

Achieve & Celebrate

All actions will reduce electricity consumption to some degree. We can help you make that savings substantial, potentially improving your building's ECIP performance. In addition, the program is an excellent opportunity to connect your community to Stanford's sustainability mission. Your effort will also be recognized at the annual Celebrating Sustainability Event and featured in campus publications.
