April 22nd marks the 42nd annual celebration of Earth Day, first organized across the nation by Stanford alum Denis Hayes. This is a remarkable legacy for our university. Decades later, Earth Day presents an opportunity to reflect on sustainability as a core value, as well as the integral role we each play in making that vision a reality. While such reflection can happen on a single day, sustainability should be practiced every day in order to realize its environmental, economic and social benefits. So while Earth Day is just one day, sustainability is important at Stanford every day.
How To Make Every Day Earth Day
Take Simple Actions
The Office of Sustainability has carefully studied and identified key individual actions that are easy to follow, yet make a big difference by conserving resources, reducing costs, and engaging our campus community. We suggest some simple actions that you can incorporate into your Stanford routine. You can pledge to complete one, many, or even all of the actions over the course of the next six months and make sustainability part of your daily habits.
Pledge and Win
All pledge participants will be entered in the Earth Day raffle. We will contact you in six months in an effort to learn about your progress and better meet your needs.
- We have created an easy and fun Tree’s Pocket Guide for you to follow as you pledge and complete your actions.
- Pledge to carry out any or all of these sustainable actions by clicking the button below.
