Funky Frost: An amphitheater's raucous rock 'n' roll era

From the late 1960s, when San Francisco music served as the soundtrack of a generation, well into the 1980s, when the Grateful Dead, left, made an annual pilgrimage, Frost Amphitheater embraced rock 'n' roll. That history is recounted in the latest issue of Stanford magazine.

$20 million endowment created for bioengineering projects

With funds from the university and the Wallace H. Coulter Foundation, the Department of Bioengineering has established a $20 million endowment to support the translation of ideas into treatments and devices that address unmet medical needs. Russ Altman, left, is chair of bioengineering.

Provost to present 2012 budget plan to Senate Thursday

At Thursday's Faculty Senate meeting, Provost John Etchemendy will discuss the budget plan for fiscal year 2012, which begins Sept 1. Karen Cook, vice provost for faculty development and diversity, will lead a panel discussion on professorial gains, losses and composition in 2009-10.
