2012 New Student Orientation Overview
New Student Orientation (NSO) began on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 with the last formal NSO events taking place on Sunday, September 23, the day before Autumn Quarter classes began.
NSO is designed to provide freshmen and new transfer students with an introduction to the wide array of academic, intellectual, leadership, cultural, and social experiences available to you at Stanford. It is also an important time for forming relationships with your classmates, dormmates, and other members of the Stanford community. During these six days, there are many engaging programs to attend, but there is also time to settle into your room and prepare for classes.
Meet the seven Freshman Transition Coordinators (FTCs) who worked throughout the spring and summer to ensure that you had a smooth transition to Stanford and a great New Student Orientation.

Parent Information
New Student Orientation events for parents and families took place on the first day of NSO, Tuesday, September 18, 2012. Please refer to the NSO Parent Events page to view the Parent Events Calendar and for information about getting to campus, parking on campus, and getting around campus via the NSO Marguerite shuttle busses.
Looking Ahead to NSO in 2013
In 2013, Stanford's New Student Orientation for incoming freshmen and transfer students will occur on Tuesday, September 17 through Sunday, September 22, 2013.
If you loved your NSO experience, we encourage you to join the NSO team in welcoming the Class of 2017 and transfers. There are a variety of ways to get involved (with varying time commitments). Please send an email to [email protected] if you are interested in learning more; we will notify you via email when position descriptions and application processes are available in Winter Quarter.
