Important changes to the mail and package delivery policy for undergraduate residences have been implemented. With the intention of resolving on-going issues surrounding the volume and security of mail and package delivery in the residences, Student Housing, Residential Education, and the Student Services Center (SSC) established the individual Stanford P.O. Box as the authorized, official mailing address for all undergraduates, effective September, 2010.
This program improves the security of your mail and package deliveries and provides you with a consistent address that you can use for all mail and packages throughout your undergraduate career at Stanford, regardless of where you live.
The U.S. Post Office branch is located next to the Stanford Bookstore. Each student is assigned a U.S. Post Office box number for the purpose of receiving mail and packages.
If you are an incoming freshman or transfer student, you will be able to view your post office box assignment on Axess (under the Personal Info tab) in September, and you will receive your mailbox key at New Student Orientation (NSO).
Please be aware that no U.S. Mail or packages from any delivery service will be delivered to or accepted in undergraduate residences* or by the Housing Front Desks. U.S. Mail and all packages are to be addressed to your individual P.O. Box.
*Row Exception: Students living in Row houses (Upper Row, Lower Row, Clusters 1, 2, or 3/Cowell), are strongly encouraged to follow the directions for the mail and package process above, as the PO Box address is each student’s official Stanford address and should be maintained during their entire undergraduate career. However, Row residents are also able to have mail and packages delivered directly to the Row Houses by addressing mail and packages to the house's street address. Please be reminded that Student Housing/the university accept no responsibility for packages sent to/delivered at individual residences.
Mailing Address
If you are mailing items through the US Postal Service, please address as follows:
Your Name
531 Lasuen Mall
P.O. Box (insert your box number here)
Stanford, CA 94309
All packages shipped via the U.S. Postal Service will be accepted and held for pick up at the Stanford Post Office as part of your P.O. Box services.
Note that while the ZIP code for the rest of the campus is 94305, the ZIP code for the Post Office is 94309.
If you are mailing items through UPS, DHL or OnTrac, please address as follows:
Your Name
531 Lasuen Mall
# (insert your P.O. Box number here, but DO NOT write “P.O.Box”)
Stanford, CA 94305 (please note this is a different Zip Code from the Post Office address above)
All packages sent via UPS, DHL, and OnTrac will be directed to a package receiving center on campus (Roble Package Center).
Once the package has arrived, you will be notified of its arrival via email or phone call, so please be sure to put your contact information on all packages being shipped and ask friends and family to do the same. Any packages mistakenly addressed to a student residence will be returned to sender.
If you are mailing items through FedEX, please contact FedEx.
If you are planning to ship items as you move to campus, please keep in mind that it is not possible to receive packages until after you arrive. Therefore, do not send your belongings in advance of your arrival. Packages that arrive before you do will be returned to sender.

It may be easier to ship certain items rather than to bring them with you. If so, be sure to pack all boxes so you do not have difficulty lifting and/or carrying them once they arrive.
Because undergraduate residences and Housing Front Desks do not have the capacity to accept packages for residents, the University has established the Roble Package Center. At this time, this service is only available to residents of undergraduate housing. Students residing in Graduate Housing may receive their packages at their residences. Please see below for details. Packages sent to the Roble Package Center (via UPS, DHL or OnTrac) should be addressed as follows:

Delivery |
Once the package has arrived, you will be notified of its arrival via email or phone call, so please be sure to put your contact information on all packages being shipped and ask friends and family to do the same. Package delivery personnel will not be given access to the residences, which are secured 24 hours a day. Any packages mistakenly addressed to a student residence will be returned to sender. Please do not ship items before you arrive on campus. Any packages which arrive before you do will be returned. |
Direct Email Notification |
To better serve you as you receive packages at the Roble Package Center, direct email notification from the delivery vendor to the package recipient has been implemented. Direct email notification enhances the delivery vendor’s service level by allowing for earlier alerts to residents confirming package arrival at the Roble Package Center and by providing direct contact. |
Package Holds |
You also can arrange with your carrier to hold your package at one of its service locations until you arrive. In this case, you will need to arrange your own transportation to pick up the package. If you use UPS, you can request Hold for Pickup service, in which case your package will be delivered to the UPS facility of your choice and held for up to five days, free of charge. UPS will call you when the package arrives. If you use FedEx, you can mark the Hold at FedEx Location box in the Special Handling section of your air way bill and indicate where the shipment should be held. |
To increase the ease and efficiency of moving into residences and shipping packages, Stanford housing has collaborated with our storage vendor, Collegeboxes, to provide Ship-to-School Service. This service provides a cost-effective, convenient, and reliable way to transport your personal belongings and packages, having them delivered directly to your room or apartment at a specific time. Please note that this is a separate process and service from standard package shipping and delivery (outlined above). The University assumes no responsibility for loss of, or damage to, items included in this process. Additionally, contracts with our preferred vendors, Collegeboxes and Door to Door, are entered into by the student and the firm. The University is not a party to these contracts. See Storage Services for more information about this shipping option.
Residents of Graduate Housing may address mail and packages to their apartment.
Mail should be addressed to: |
Your Name |
To find your residence address, check Housing Options.
Additionally, an optional new Graduate Housing Package Center has been established in Escondido Village. The Package Center is located at 160 Comstock Circle, near the Escondido Village Housing Front Desk, and open Monday through Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
If you wish to utilize the Graduate Package Center, you must register by completing the online registration form, printing and signing the form and submitting it to your Graduate Housing Front Desk, after which you will receive a confirmation email from the Package Center staff which includes your personalized mailing address and mail code. An email will be sent to the recipient of each package received at the Graduate Housing Package Center.
If you opt not to use the Graduate Package Center, you can ship packages directly to your residence. These packages should only arrive after you have checked in and received your specific assignment; otherwise they will be returned to sender. If you aren’t home when the mail carrier/shipping company attempts to deliver a package too large to fit in your mailbox or slot, they will leave a slip indicating where and how to pick up the package.
Finally, most departments provide mailboxes for their graduate students. If you do not yet have a permanent campus address, you can have letters, (but usually NOT packages or boxes) sent to your department at:

c/o Your Department
