Professor Michael Armacost will discuss the role of foreign policy in the upcoming election. In presidential elections, what role has foreign policy played? Does foreign policy matter to voters, or do international issues take a backseat to domestic concerns? Professor Michael Armacost will describe how the election affects the conduct of foreign policy and what the country might expect after the election.
Michael Armacost has been at the Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center since 2002. From 1995 to 2002, he served as president of Washington, D.C.’s Brookings Institution Previously, during his twenty-four year government career, Professor Armacost served, among other positions, as Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs and as Ambassador to Japan and the Philippines. He is the author of three books and his most recent, Friends or Rivals?, draws on his tenure as ambassador. He currently chairs the board of The Asia Foundation. Only two seats available!
