Welcome to the Stanford Technology Ventures Program (STVP) Newsletter. What you'll find in this issue:
- Kathleen M. Eisenhardt was awarded the all-academy Scholarly Contributions to Management Award at the 2009 Academy of Management conference. This award is granted on an annual basis for significant scholarly contributions that have advanced management and organizational knowledge and practice.
- Riitta Katila has been granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor in the Department of Management Science and Engineering. Riitta also received the Strategic Management Emerging Scholar Award (top strategy scholar under 40), several NSF grants, and editorial board membership for several major journals.
- We are pleased to welcome a new faculty member, Chuck Eesley. Chuck's interests focus on which individual attributes, strategies, and institutional arrangements optimally drive the rate and direction of innovation, entrepreneurship and ultimately economic growth. A 2002 graduate of Duke in Cognitive Sciences, Chuck received his PhD in 2009 in Behavioral and Policy Sciences from MIT. He received the Kauffman Dissertation Award, is the winner of the Duke Entrepreneurship Challenge, and is a co-founder of Sun Dance Genetics.
- We are delighted to announce that Shilpa Thanawala will be joining STVP as our new Multimedia Designer, replacing Jon Muller, who returned to graduate school at Carnegie Mellon.
- ACCEL Roundtables on Entrepreneurship Education
There is still time to register for one of STVP’s three upcoming annual conferences for entrepreneurship educators. These meetings are designed to stimulate communication and collaboration between business, science, and engineering faculty who teach high-technology entrepreneurship in universities around the world.

Call for presentations
- West Coast Research Symposium, September 10-12, Seattle
The Stanford Technology Ventures Program co-hosts this research conference with the University of Washington, University of Southern California, University of Oregon, and University of California-Irvine. The symposium focuses on mapping the theoretical domain of technology entrepreneurship. It will showcase cutting-edge work by technology entrepreneurship researchers from the Northwest and around the country.
STVP's Entrepreneurship Corner
We've continued to round out its collection of excellent videos and podcasts from some of the most accomplished thinkers and entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley and beyond. Recent speakers include Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, Jeff Hawkins, co-founder of Palm and Numenta, and Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook.
In addition, we are pleased to announce our new ECorner Teaching Guide on Venture Capital for educators that employ the best of the video library in the classroom. Additionally, we are using our Twitter feed, @ECorner, to keep our rapidly growing group of followers informed about upcoming speakers, podcasts, and other events.
The WEF released a new report, “Educating the Next Wave of Entrepreneurs,” to consolidate existing global knowledge and good practices in entrepreneurship education. There are three focus areas, including youth, higher education and social inclusion. This is the first time entrepreneurship education has been considered in such a comprehensive manner. STVP's Professor Tom Byers sat on the Technical Advisory Group, and the report will be discussed at each of our REE conferences.
- Global Innovation Tournament
As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, STVP is pleased to host the 4th annual Global Innovation Tournament, a fast-paced competition that will challenge student teams to solve a provocative problem in just eight days. Details can be found on the Global Innovation Tournament web site. Here are important dates to remember:

- E-Week 2010
The Stanford Entrepreneurship Network is already gearing up for E-Week 2010. Dozens of events across campus will take place February 22 – 28, 2010.
