Robert Siegel is a General Partner with X/Seed Capital, an early stage venture fund that invests in companies with unique technology innovations.
Prior to X/Seed, Mr. Siegel was the General Manager, Video and Software Solutions for GE Security. Mr. Siegel was responsible for General Electric’s video surveillance global Center of Excellence (COE), which had revenues of $350 million in 2007. Mr. Siegel’s responsibilities included developing the firm’s strategic direction in video, delivering on global product development and the execution of the corresponding go-to-market and channel activities.
Previous to General Electric, Mr. Siegel was Executive Vice President of Pixim Inc., a fabless semiconductor firm making image sensors and processors. Mr. Siegel guided Pixim's product development, corporate strategy, Asia sales, applications and system engineering, technology licensing and patent portfolio management.
Formerly, Mr. Siegel was the founder and CEO of Weave Innovations Inc., a product and network services developer for computer and communications platforms which invented the world’s first digital picture frame. At Weave, Mr. Siegel assembled a nationwide network for delivering photos and other digital media to PCs, PDAs and other Internet appliances. The firm was acquired by Eastman Kodak.
Mr. Siegel served in leadership roles at Intel Corporation, where he developed and implemented Intel's product strategy for PCs and set-tops into the family room. During his tenure at Intel, Mr. Siegel was also an executive in the Corporate Business Development Division. In that role, he invested Intel's capital in start-ups that were strategically aligned with the firm's corporate vision.
Mr. Siegel spent six years at GeoWorks in Alameda, CA, where he was promoted to a series of upper level management positions, culminating in his role as Manager of International Sales and Marketing. His duties included worldwide management responsibilities for OEM sales and international retail products distribution in Europe, Canada and Australia.
Mr. Siegel has also worked for Quantum Corp. and has consulted for Sun Microsystems and Bain and Company.
Mr. Siegel has a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and an MBA from Stanford University. In 1996, he served as lead researcher for Andrew Grove's best selling book, Only the Paranoid Survive. He is the co-inventor of three patents and the co-author of “Cutting the Strategy Diamond in High-Technology Ventures,” which was published in California Management Review in Spring, 2008, as well as “Defining the Minimum Winning Game in High-Technology Ventures,” which was published in California Management Review in Spring, 2007. He serves on the Boards of Directors and Boards of Advisors of multiple private technology companies.
