Mark Stevens teaches S351, “Building and Managing Professional Sales Organizations”, with Mark Leslie. Earlier in his career, Mark spent over five years in the field sales organization of Intel, serving in a wide variety of capacities. For the past twenty years, he has been a venture capitalist at Sequoia Capital, and has served on numerous private and public boards. He believes that for a company of any size to have long lasting success, it must develop and manage an efficient and strong sales structure. He hopes to impart his years of industry experience to the classroom.

Bio

Mark Stevens joined Sequoia Capital as an associate in 1989 and, subsequently, became a partner in 1993. His investment focus areas have been in semiconductors, networking systems, software, and energy. He has been responsible for numerous, successful Sequoia investments including: Aspect Development, At Web, Billpoint, Commquest, Documentum, MP3.com, Nvidia, Pixelworks, Quicklogic, Quickturn, Spectralink, Stratum One, Summit Design, and Terayon. He continues to serve on the board of Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) and two private Sequoia companies: Rayspan and Alpha Omega Semiconductor. He also is responsible for the firm’s investments in Beceem and Mobile Peak.

Mark has served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Southern California (USC) since 2001 and currently is co-chair of the Investment Committee. He is a long time member of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering Board of Councilors. In 2009, Mark received the USC Alumni Association’s Alumni Merit Award. He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Las Lomitas School District Foundation in Menlo Park, CA.

Prior to joining Sequoia, he held technical and field sales positions at Intel, and was a member of the technical staff at Hughes Aircraft.

Marks received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Arts in Economics (both magna cum laude) from USC in 1981, a Master of Science in Computer Engineering from USC in 1984, and an MBA from Harvard in 1989. His hobbies include college football, basketball, skiing, running and reading.
