Aug 09, 2011 :: Emeritus Professor Masahiko Aoki delivers a Presidential Lecture at the 16th World Congress of the International Association

Professor Masahiko Aoki delivered a Presidential Lecture entitled “The Four Phases of Economic Development and Institutional Evolution in China and Japan” at the 16th World Congress of the International Economic Association, which took place July 4-8, 2011 at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Professor Avner Greif organized an invited session on “Economic Performance of Civilization”, Professor Lawrence Goulder on “International Competitiveness, Burden Sharing, and Efficiency in Climate Policy”, and Professor Han Hong on ”Empirical Economic Models of Dynamic Games and Unobserved Heterogeneity” for the Congress. Professor Avner Greif is a new member of the executive committee.

 


Apr 05, 2011 :: Graduate Students Arthur van Benthem and Johannes Stroebel win Working Paper Prize.

The International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE) announced on March 24th that graduate students Arthur van Benthem and Johannes Stroebel won the 2010 Best Working Paper Award. This award is given annually to one paper in the IAEE working paper series. The series contains research related to energy economics and policy. May 27, 2011 :: Professors Ran Abramitzky, Florian Scheuer and Pablo Kurlat appointed members to the NBER

Congratulations to Ran, Florian and Pablo who have been appointed members to the National Bureau of Economic Research. Ran is in the DAE, Development of the American Economy, Florian is in the Public Economics program and Pablo is in the EFG, Economic Fluctuations and Growth. The NBER is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of how the economy works. The NBER is committed to undertaking and disseminating unbiased economic research among public policymakers, business professionals, and the academic community.

Jul 26, 2010 :: Nicholas Bloom named a NBER program director.

The National Bureau of Economic Research has named Nick Bloom the next program director for the Productivity & Technological Change Program. Nick studies productivity-related topics from a variety of different perspectives; his work has examined the links between R&D spending, capital investment, management practices, and productivity growth. January 2011 Nick will take over as program director.


Jun 11, 2009 :: Professor John Taylor to give the inaugural Martin Feldstein Lecture at the NBER in Massachusetts.

John TaylorOn July 10th, 2009 John Taylor will give the first Martin Feldstein Lecture for the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) in Massachusetts.  The lecture will address an important question in applied economics, with an application to economic policy.  The title is: "Empirically Evaluating Economic Policy in Real Time."    This distinguished lectureship has been established to recognize Martin Feldstein's many contributions to the NBER.
