External Credit Evaluation

Credit Transfers for GERs

Students may propose that work taken at another college or university be accepted in fulfillment of a General Education Requirement.

Transfer Credit Policies

Undergraduates who want to take courses at another college or university and apply those courses toward their Stanford degree should follow the Stanford University transfer credit policies which state that work completed at another institution can be considered for credit if all of the following conditions are met:

Graduate Residency Credit

After at least one quarter of enrollment, students pursuing an Engineer, D.M.A., or Ph.D. may apply for transfer credit for graduate work done at another institution. Ph.D. or Engineer candidates who also earned their master's at Stanford are not eligible for transfer residency credit, nor are any master's degree students.

General Certification of Education "A" Levels, French Baccalaureate, and German Abitur

International advanced placement examinations such as General Certificate of Education "A" levels, French Baccalaureate, and German Abitur may be awarded a maximum of 12 units per discipline for some of the subjects which receive College Board AP credit.

Advanced Placement

A maximum of 45 quarter units of Advanced Placement (AP), transfer credit, and/or other external credit (such as International Baccalaureate) may be applied toward the undergraduate degree. Note the following points regarding College Board AP credit:
