Bring a book to Stanford: Foster a love of reading in young people
The Haas Center encourages alumni, students, staff, friends, and community members to bring new and gently used books for youth to the Haas Center during the weekend of Reunion Homecoming. All books will be donated to the schools programs at the Haas Center, which connect Stanford undergraduates with youth in the Ravenswood City School District external link where they work one-on-one to promote literary development, academic success, and college readiness.

Classes Without Quizzes (CWOQ): The Impact of Mentoring: Stories from the Farm
Thursday, October 22 from 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the Bechtel Conference Center, Encina Hall
Haas Center National Advisory Board Chair Joy Simmons will kick off an hour of stories from some of Stanford's great mentors. Faculty will describe how their own experiences of being mentored have inspired them to advise and guide students on ethical, academic, and career choices, and how their students have gone on to serve the world. The session will conclude with practical tips for mentoring in your workplace and community, and how you can become an alumni mentor to a current Stanford student through the Stanford Alumni Mentoring program.

Symposium of Undergraduate Research and Public Service

Learn about the research and public service endeavors of Stanford undergraduate participants in undergraduate research programs, including the Haas Center’s Public Service Fellowships and Community Service Work-Study program.

Alumni Service Projects
Saturday, October 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm
What better way to reconnect than through community service! Join fellow alumni, and Haas Center for Public Service staff and students for two service-learning projects:

  1. Share your career path with East Palo Alto Academy high school students and inspire our youth (meet at the Haas Center at 2:00 pm)
  2. Get your hands dirty planting trees on campus (meet at the planting site between Palo Road and El Camino at 2:00 pm
    • Directions: from Arrillaga, travel north on Campus Drive, take a right on Palm Drive, left on Arboretum, right on Quarry Road, and right on Palo Road. Proceed about 400 feet and park in the lot on the right. Cross Palo Road and look for a white watering truck. Find on Google Maps. external link
