Dr. Martin joined Gilead Sciences in 1990 and currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer. His antiviral research and vision have led to market share leading drugs for the treatment of HIV, hepatitis B and influenza. Gilead Sciences has also become a leader in providing access to low cost HIV medications in the developing world. Dr. Martin participated in a number of public service committees including the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. He holds a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Chicago and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
