FSI provides support to Stanford faculty, students, and researchers for activities aimed at building student and instructor skills and capacity in the field international studies. The funding programs detailed below each have their own funding parameters, eligibility criteria, and proposal guidelines that must be followed in order to be considered for funding.

FSI Stanford, The Europe Center Fellowship for Professionals/International ScholarsThe Anna Lindh Fellowship is designed to bring fellows from Sweden, Scandinavia and the Baltic region and those scholars working on subjects of importance to the region to Stanford University for research, library and archive consultation, and collaboration with Stanford faculty and community for the study of Scandinavia, the Baltic region and northern Europe's role in trans-Atlantic relations.

CDDRL Fellowship for Graduate Students, Postdoctoral ScholarsThe Center welcomes applications from pre-doctoral students at the write-up stage and from post-doctoral scholars working in any of the four program areas of democracy, development, evaluating the efficacy of democracy promotion around the world, and rule of law. Applicants working at the intersection of two or more of these issue areas will receive preferential consideration.

CDDRL Fellowship for Stanford-only Undergraduate StudentsThe CDDRL Interdisciplinary Honors Program provides the opportunity for undergraduate students at Stanford to earn honors in democracy, development and rule of law. CHP/PCOR Fellowship for Graduate Students, Postdoctoral Scholars, FacultyPlease note--this is funding for a seed project proposal and NOT a fellowship. CADMA is seeking seed project proposals for 2012-2013. Projects focusing on research highlighting the following specific aims will be considered for one year awards: Investigating the roles that age-related changes in emotion and cognition play in decision making, especially those surrounding cognitively complex and emotionally-charged topics, Learning how decision making processes influence day-to-day decisions, such as choices regarding exercise and diet that influence health and functional status of the elderly, Developing and evaluating support tools or information usefully to such tools that could be provided at or near the time of when people face difficult life decisions.

CHP/PCOR Fellowship for Graduate Students, Postdoctoral Scholars, FacultyPlease note--this is funding for a seed project proposal and NOT a fellowship. CDEHA is seeking seed project proposals for 2012-2013. Projects focusing on research highlighting the following specific aims will be considered for one year awards: Effects of medical technology on costs, health outcomes, physical and psychological well-being, and health care decisions of the elderly; Longitudinal and cohort studies of medical care, costs, and health and economic outcomes of older populations, in the United States and other countries, with particular emphasis on economic and health interest in outcome disparities; Application of demographic techniques, including biodemography, to understand changes in survival, health, and well-being among the elderly over time.

Shorenstein APARC, KSP Fellowship for Professionals/International ScholarsThe Koret Fellowship was established to bring leading professionals in Asia and the United States to Stanford to study United States-Korea relations. The fellows will conduct their own research on the bilateral relationship, with an emphasis on contemporary relations with the broad aim of fostering greater understanding and closer ties between the two countries.

The fellowship supports predoctoral students working within a broad range of topics related to the political economy of contemporary East Asia. Fellows whose main focus is Japan are called Takahashi Fellows, in honor of the Takahashi family, whose generous gift has made this fellowship possible. Fellows studying other regions are called Shorenstein APARC Fellows.

Fellowship for Stanford-only Undergraduate StudentsThe Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI) seeks undergraduate applications for up to eight paid research internships that will include work abroad during summer quarter 2012; three internships are available for Beijing, China, and up to five for the southwestern highlands of Guatemala. The internship program will support two separate multidisciplinary teams of Stanford undergraduates to carry out field research projects that address chronic global underdevelopment. Working with an established research program in each country and supervised by one or more Stanford principal investigators, the undergraduate research teams will spend approximately two weeks on location and four to six weeks planning and completing projects in the U.S. Travel, accommodations, insurance and incidentals will be fully funded.
