Renting a P.O. Box

• If you currently have a P.O. Box assignment and will be an active student effective September 1, 2012, your P.O. Box will be automatically renewed for the upcoming year. No action on your part is required.
• If you do not currently have a P.O. Box assigned to you, new P.O. Boxes will be available for assignment on or after September 10, 2012.
  • If you would like to request your P.O. Box prior to September 10, use this pre-categorized HelpSU link. You may then pick up your P.O. Box key at the Student Services Center on or after September 10, 2012. 
  • After September 10, you should visit the Student Services Center in person to complete the P.O. Box assignment process.

The non-refundable P.O. Box rental fee is $67.00 for a one-year rental beginning on September 1 and ending on August 31. Per quarter or partial year rentals are not available. You must be a registered student within the academic year to acquire a Stanford University P.O. Box.

Note to Undergraduates: Every undergraduate student is required to maintain a P.O. Box on campus to receive mail. Unless you live in one of the 36 Row Houses, you will not be able to receive mail at your student residence. If you do not live in a Row House or maintain a P.O. Box, you will be unable to receive mail on campus.

Freshmen and transfer students are automatically assigned a P.O. Box. All other students must apply for a box via the Student Services Center, Tresidder Union, 2nd Floor.

All Post Office boxes will be automatically renewed at the beginning of each academic year for registered students.

Using the P.O. Box

The U.S. Post Office sorts the mail into the P.O. boxes. Access to P.O. boxes is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. U.S. mail parcels and U.S. Express mail may be sent to the box; a card or a key will be put into the box to notify the recipient that a package is waiting for pick-up.

Fed Ex and UPS will not deliver to a P.O. Box. Please direct all FedEx and UPS packages to:

Terms and Conditions of P.O. Box Rental

The Terms and Conditions for rental of a Stanford University P.O. Box are as follows:

• If you are leaving Stanford for the summer, please submit a TEMPORARY change of address. You can submit a change of address with the Stanford Branch Post Office at least three weeks before you leave. This service is free, but it takes up to three weeks to process.  Change of Address cards are available in the lobby of all U.S. Post Offices. DO NOT FORGET TO ENTER A STOP DATE.
• A PERMANENT change of address will remove your P.O. Box permanently, and your P.O. Box will be assigned to another student.
• P.O. Boxes may NOT be shared. Only mail addressed to you, or members of your family with the same last name, will be delivered.  No mail in care of (c/o) your name will be accepted.
• Your box cannot be used to accept mail for a club, group function, consulting group, business, or events of any kind. It also cannot be used to accept surveys, voting ballots, or fundraiser responses.
• P.O. Boxes must be used in compliance with USPS and University policies.
• Any deviations from the rules described above will cause your mail to be returned to sender, or could result in a termination of your P.O. Box.
