Renting a P.O. Box
United States Post Office Boxes are available to rent through the Registrar's Student P.O. Box Rental Office at a cost of $58.00 for the academic year, September 1 to August 31. Per quarter or partial year rentals are not available. You must be a registered student within the academic year to acquire a Stanford University P.O. Box. Priority is given to students in the residences without mail service.
Freshman and transfer students are automatically assigned a P.O. Box. All other students must apply for a box at the Student Services Center, Tresidder Union, 2nd Floor
Renewing Your P.O. Box
Each spring, all box holders are contacted electronically to inquire if they wish to renew their P.O. box for the following year. If the response is "yes," the box is held for the following year, and the annual rental fee is automatically added to the student's Autumn Quarter University Bill. If the response is "no," the box may continue to be used until the August 31 deadline, after which it will be emptied and prepared for the next user.
Students who did not renew, but will need a new box for the new academic year must contact the Student Services Center to request a new box (see Renting a P.O. Box above).
Using the P.O. Box
The U.S. Post Office sorts the mail into the P.O. boxes. Access to P.O. boxes is 24 hours a day, seven days a week. U.S. mail parcels and U.S. Express mail may be sent to the box; a card or a key will be put into the box to notify the recipient that a package is waiting for pick-up.
