Established with generous support from Stephen Juelsgaard, JD ’82, this clinic is successor to the Law School’s Cyberlaw Clinic and will broaden its focus to encompass all that interests our students and the kind of work most will do after they graduate, including Internet policy, patent and copyright policy, cyberspace access, developments in the high-tech and biotech industries, etc. The key concern running through all these fields of law and across all these industries is how to foster innovation: how to ensure a regulatory climate that is appropriately sensitive to the ways in which law—whether through litigation, legislation, or regulation—can serve to promote (or frustrate) the inventiveness, creativity, and entrepreneurship that provide the real engine for economic growth. Under close supervision of clinic instructors, students will focus on complex matters of IP law in areas ranging from biotechnology to information technology, pharmaceuticals, clean technology, and the creation and distribution of information.The clinic will be policy focused, exposing students to the vital role lawyers play in developing public policy whether through litigation in courts, promoting or opposing regulation before administrative agencies, or engaging in government and public affairs work.
