SJCRCL's fall symposium will address the Roberts Court’s civil rights and civil liberties jurisprudence, with a specific focus on cases from the 2011 and 2012 terms, including Miller v. Alabama (life without parole for juvenile offenders), Hosanna-Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church and School v. EEOC (employment discrimination claims against religious employers), and Fisher v. University of Texas (affirmative action in higher education). This symposium aims to parse out the ideological and political themes that animate the Court’s decisions and explore their practical implications.
