GRADUATE STUDENTS:

2012-2013 Academic Year FLAS Fellowships
Deadline: Monday, February 13, 2012
Professional school students, especially in law and education, as well as graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in H&S, Earth Sciences, and Engineering are strongly encouraged to apply. FLAS fellowships, authorized under Title VI of the Higher Education Act and administered by the U.S. Department of Education, provide tuition and stipend to students undergoing advanced training in designated foreign languages in combination with either area studies, international studies, or international aspects of professional studies.

FLAS 2012 Summer Fellowships for Graduate Students
Deadline: Monday, February 13, 2012
The US Department of Education Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships are for all levels of intensive language study in most languages of Russia, East and Central Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia. The fellowships provide summer tuition plus a $2500 stipend.

CREEES Summer Travel/Research Grants for Graduate Students (2012)
Deadline: Monday, March 5, 2012
The Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies offers up to $2,000 in support for research travel in Eastern Europe, or the Former Soviet Union.


STANFORD UNDERGRADUATES:

Summer Language Study Grants for Stanford Undergraduates
Deadline: Tuesday, February 14, 2012
Up to $2000 in individual grants are available for summer study of Russian, Ukrainian, Albanian, Bulgraian, Czech, Polish, Hungarian, Romanian, Serbo-Croatian, Turkish, Kazakh, and Uzbek.

2012-2013 Academic Year FLAS Fellowship for an Undergraduate
Deadline: Monday, May 7, 2012
One Stanford undergraduate annually will receive an Academic-Year FLAS for advanced study (third-year or higher) of an area language. Students of any major who are U.S. citizens are eligible to apply. FLAS undergraduate fellowships, authorized under Title VI of the Higher Education Act and administered by the U.S. Department of Education, provide $10,000 toward tuition and a $5,000 stipend to students undergoing advanced training in designated foreign languages in combination with either area studies, international studies, or international aspects of professional studies. Before applying, Stanford undergraduates must confirm that they have submitted a complete application to Stanford Financial Aid by April 15. (CREEES will determine the FLAS awardee only after Stanford Financial Aid has finalized student need eligibility in July or August. Only those students demonstrating $15,000 in need are eligible for the FLAS).
