Law Professor Hank Greely to receive 2012 Lyman Award
Since 1991, Hank Greely, '74, has delivered talks for alumni groups, including participating in Classes Without Quizzes during Reunion Homecoming and speaking on numerous panels for various Stanford student and alumni audiences.
Law Professor Hank Greely will receive the 2012 Richard W. Lyman Award today.
Hank Greely, a law professor and Stanford alumnus, is recipient of the 2012 Richard W. Lyman Award for his volunteer efforts to keep alumni connected to the university wherever they are.
The Lyman Award is presented annually by the Stanford Alumni Association to a faculty member who has gone "above and beyond" to engage alumni through volunteer activities that further the SAA's goal of lifelong learning.
Since 1991, Greely, '74, has delivered talks for alumni groups, including participating in Classes Without Quizzes during Reunion Homecoming and speaking on numerous panels for Stanford student and alumni audiences. He also is an avid Cardinal sports fan.
Greely, the Deane F. and Kate Edelman Johnson Professor of Law, will receive the award during an invitation-only event hosted by the SAA this afternoon. The event also will recognize all faculty who volunteer their time to alumni engagement.
"As we reach, serve and engage our alumni around the world, we know empirically that alumni education - in all its myriad forms - is the most effective way to create connection between the university and its graduates," said Stanford Alumni Association President Howard Wolf.
"This celebration is the least we can do to thank the hundreds of faculty members who give of their time and talents throughout the year."
The award was established in 1983 in honor of Richard W. Lyman, Stanford’s seventh president, who died in May. In addition to the award, the prize includes funding toward books and materials designated by the recipient for the Stanford University Libraries.
Recent Lyman Award winners include Lyman Van Slyke, professor emeritus of history; Al Camarillo, professor of history and special assistant to the provost for faculty diversity; Rob Dunbar, professor in the School of Earth Sciences and director of the Earth Systems Program; and Barton "Buzz" Thompson, professor of law and a faculty director of the Stanford Woods Institute for the Environment.
