Ron Dolin is an entrepreneur, engineer, and lawyer, with a background in web search and related Information Retrieval technology. He was an Engineering Program Manager for Google, where he worked from 2000 to 2006. His work there included analyzing the search algorithm, as well as starting the search evaluation team. Ron also worked on Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, computer security policy, and setting up an engineering site in China.

Ron received a B.A. in math and physics from U.C. Berkeley, followed by a 4-year stint in Geneva working at CERN, the high energy physics lab currently running the LHC (where he once had coffee with Tim Berners-Lee, who explained the art of punting at Oxford and Cambridge). Ron has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His dissertation focused on scalable distributed architectures for locating heterogeneous information sources. After grad school, Ron ended up at Google, which he finally left to attend law school at the University of California, Hastings. He is licensed to practice law in California (where his legal advice generally consists of find a good lawyer). Ron also published a legal anaylsis of, not surprisingly, search query privacy.

Ron is currently a Research Fellow at CodeX, Stanford's Center for Legal Informatics. He is a Trustee for the UC Hastings Foundation and Bowman International School. He is also an advisor to the legal technology startup LawGives, as well as the Hastings Science & Technology Law Journal.
