Biography
Adine Varah is a Deputy City Attorney for the City and County of San Francisco. As Deputy City Attorney, Ms. Varah serves as general counsel to San Francisco's municipal arts and cultural institutions, including the San Francisco Arts Commission, Asian Art Museum, Fine Arts Museums, Film Commission, Grants for the Arts Program, and the War Memorial and Performing Arts Center. Ms. Varah also advises a variety of City departments and agencies regarding intellectual property and First Amendment matters. In addition, Ms. Varah runs the attorney training program for the City Attorney's Office. Prior to working in the San Francisco City Attorney's Office, Ms. Varah worked as a staff attorney in the General Counsel's Office of Yale University and as an associate in the charitable organizations practice group of Choate, Hall and Stewart in Boston.
Ms. Varah received her B.A. in studio art and American studies from Stanford University in 1991 and her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1995. She frequently lectures on legal issues related to art and museums.
