Power Influenza Week: October 3—10, 2012
Get your flu vaccine at a variety of locations across campus from October 3 through October 10! During this Power Influenza Week, Stanford University is encouraging students, faculty and employees to get vaccinated and stay healthy this cold and flu season.
Stanford is offering the flu vaccine at no charge to members of the Stanford community. Find out the dates, times and locations of upcoming flu vaccination availability at Stanford during Power Influenza Week and throughout October, November and December.
Kaiser Permanente members may also get their flu vaccine at no cost at the KP Mobile Health Vehicle from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at two campus locations: off Campus Drive in the parking lot next to Maples Pavilion on Tuesdays, and in the Stock Farm parking lot near the corner of Stock Farm Road and Oak Road on Thursdays. About the Flu
The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. Flu illnesses may range from mild to severe, and may even result in death in the most extreme cases. Certain individuals may be at high risk for developing complications from the flu, including children under age 5, pregnant women, older adults and individuals with certain medical conditions.
Flu symptoms may include:
- Fever and fever-like chills
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Runny and/or stuffy nose
- Muscle and body aches
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea (more common in children than adults)
The best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated as early as possible during the flu season, which usually begins in October and can last through May.
About the Flu Vaccine
This year’s flu vaccine will protect against the three influenza viruses that are indicated to be the most common during the season: influenza A (H1N1), influenza A (H3N2) and influenza B.
