The iPads for Learning initiative is a trial program run by Academic Computing Services (ACS) and the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) to provide iPads for use in academic classes or workshops. iPads are available for learning and teaching opportunities and faculty can submit proposals for short-term usage (workshops) or for as long as a quarter.
Examples of previous iPad projects include Aneesh Nainani's Nanomanufacturing EE292L class, which utilized iPads to produce screencast presentations on a course topic (see video, right). Patricia Carbajales' Fundamentals of Geographic Information Science (GIS) EarthSys144 course collected and analyzed real-world geospatial data around Stanford's campus using the iPad's geolocation capabilities.

We've put together an FAQ page that might be able to answer some questions you may have. If you don't see the answer to your question, please let us know through our contact form, or using the red "Contact Us" button to the right.
Workshop Information
If you attended Dr. Andrew Currah's workshop on Thursday, January 17, 2013, or are interested in seeing information about the topics and apps covered in the workshop, please download an informational PDF here. Please note that the PDF is behind WebAuth, Stanford's authenication system, so you will need to log in with your SUNetID and password to download the file. If you have problems doing so, please use the Contact Us button to the right to ask for assistance.
Proposals
The application to submit proposals has passed. We are no longer accepting applications for the iPads for Learning program for the Spring 2013 Quarter. Thank you for your participation and we look forward to working with you!
Evaluation & Selection
Proposals will be evaluated by ACS and CTL on how they identify and meet pedagogical challenges or opportunites, their uniqueness, and feasibility. All applicants will be notified if their proposals have been accepted by February 1. The authors of the selected proposals should expect to meet with members of CTL and ACS shortly thereafter to plan for iPad setup, testing, and distribution.
Technical Information and Specifications
There are 75 iPads available. All iPads are 3rd generation, 16GB, WiFi only (limited geolocation abilities).

Additional Apps
If you are interested in using an app that is not part of the standard set, it may possible to include it. Funding for paid apps is currently being investigated by ACS and CTL, but is not guaranteed. If you are interested in using a paid app, please talk to member of CTL to discuss your options.
Assessment and Feedback
Participants are expected to assist ACS and CTL by providing feedback and information on the use of iPads in the classroom. At the conclusion of Spring Quarter, all program participants will be invited to share with the Stanford community, by discussing how iPads impacted teaching and learning for each course.
