    LCLS-II Project Director John Galayda to Receive Wilson Prize

    John Galayda, who served as LCLS project director and is now directing its sequel, LCLS-II, has been named the 2013 winner of the Robert R. Wilson Prize for Achievement in the Physics of Particle Accelerators, awarded by the American Physical Society.

    Stanford Physicist Wins Prestigious Dirac Medal

    At the peak of the Olympic Games, the gold medal of theoretical physics has just been announced. Stanford physics professor Shoucheng Zhang and two other physicists were awarded the Dirac Medal for their research on a novel type of matter known as a "topological insulator." Zhang is also a member of the Stanford Institute for Materials and Energy Sciences (SIMES), a division of SLAC.

    Stanford's Brian Kobilka Wins Nobel Prize in Chemistry

    Brian Kobilka, MD, professor and chair of molecular and cellular physiology at the Stanford School of Medicine, has won the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on G-protein-coupled receptors. Kobika also conducted experiments at SLAC's Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource.

    Two SLAC Scientists Win Awards for LCLS Work

    John Galayda, who served as project director for SLAC's Linac Coherent Light Source and oversees its follow-up project, LCLS-II, and Daniel Ratner, a beam physicist in the LCLS laser group, were honored with achievement awards during the 34th annual International Free Electron Laser conference, held Aug. 26 to 31 in Nara, Japan.

    SIMES/PULSE Researcher Honored for Advancing Ultrafast X-ray Experimental Capabilities
