Update on gas pipeline replacement and testing near campus
PG&E continues to strength test or replace areas of Line 109 along Miranda Avenue, Foothill Expressway and Junipero Serra Boulevard. Although PG&E has been unable to replace the entire pipeline in 2012 due to unforeseen scheduling delays, the utility expects to complete the full project and restore the area by the end of March.
"We apologize for any inconvenience as a result of the revised schedule," said PG&E Account Manager Eric Jansen.
PG&E has completed replacement of the portion of Line 109 at Page Mill Road and Junipero Serra Boulevard. The utility has been working extended hours to conduct a hydro test on this section of pipe, which involves filling it with water under pressure to ensure the strength and safety of the line. PG&E will make every effort to keep disruption to a minimum, Jansen added.
Repaving sections of Junipero Serra Boulevard will continue into January, with a break for the holidays from Dec. 20 through Jan. 3.
In January the utility will resume daytime work replacing the pipeline from Santa Maria Avenue to Page Mill Road.
"As with the sections of pipeline replaced so far, the replacement pipeline will be installed using industry best practices using modern pipeline materials," Jansen said.
Once complete, the entire stretch of Junipero Serra Boulevard will be permanently repaved.
