It is my pleasure to announce that Cynthia Haven has joined the SULAIR staff as the associate director of communications, a newly created position to increase the visibility of the libraries on campus and beyond. Many of you know her work from her five years as arts and humanities writer for the Stanford News Service and for her nationally prominent blog, The Book Haven (https://bookhaven.stanford.edu). Her time is shared with the English and Creative Writing Departments. She began March 12.

She is currently a visiting writer in the Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages, where she is working on a book about the life and work of Professor René Girard, a member of the Academie Française. She has a strong background as a literary and cultural journalist who has written for The Times Literary Supplement, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, The San Francisco Chronicle, World Literature Today, The Kenyon Review, Georgia Review, Quarterly Conversation, and the Poetry Foundation. Her work has also appeared in The Kenyon Review, Quarterly Conversation, The Georgia Review, Words Without Borders, The Cortland Review, Civilization, and others.

Her An Invisible Rope: Portraits of Czesław Miłosz was published last year by Ohio University Press/Swallow Press, Czeslaw Milosz: Conversations in 2006, and Joseph Brodsky: Conversations in 2003. Peter Dale in Conversation with Cynthia Haven was published in London, 2005. She was a 2008 Milena Jesenská Fellow in Kraków with Vienna's Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen.
