Professor Paul David was elected  President of the Western Economic Association International effective July 1, 2010.  The WEAI, (http://weainternational.org), is the second largest professional economics association in the country.

Jul 16, 2010 :: Nicholas Bloom awarded the 2010 Frisch Medal.

The Department is honored to announce that Nick Bloom has been awarded the 2010 Frisch Medal. This award is given every two years by the Econometric Society to honor an outstanding applied work published in Econometrica. Nick was given this award for his article, “The Impact of Uncertainty Shocks,” which was published in May 2009. Jun 04, 2009 :: December 7, 2009 ABRAMOVITZ LECTURE to be given by Joel Mokyr from Northwestern University.

Joel Mokyr, the Robert H. Strotz Professor of Arts and Sciences and Professor of Economics and History from Northwestern, will give the Abramovitz Lecture on December 7, 2009. The Abramovitz Lecture Series was established in 2000 and is jointly sponsored by the Stanford Economics Department and SIEPR, the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research. The purpose of the lecture series is to honor the career and intellectual legacy of Moses Abramovitz.


Oct 10, 2011 :: Congratulations to Emeritus Professor Thomas Sargent on winning the 2011 Nobel Prize in Economics!

 

Emeritus Professor and Senior Hoover Fellow Thomas Sargent won the 2011 Nobel Prize in Economics along with Christopher Sims, who is at Princeton. Tom Sargent is being recognized for his work on the cause-and effect relationship between the economy and policy instruments.

Nov 26, 2008 :: Professors Jon Levin, Monika Piazzesi and Robert Staiger have been elected fellows to the Econometric Society.

The Economics Department is honored to announce that of the 15 newly elected fellows to the Econometric Society, three are from our department, Jon Levin, Monika Piazzesi and Robert Staiger. The Econometric Society is the most prestigious learned society in the field of economics, with a world-wide membership. Its main object is to promote studies that aim at a unification of the theoretical-quantitative and empirical-quantitative approach to economic problems and that are penetrated by constructive and rigorous thinking similar to that which has come to dominate in the natural sciences.
